_____________________________________________________ Night of Combat 6 31st October At Hobsons Choice, Banbury. An excellent night consisting of the following bouts: |
|||||||||
|
Fight 1
- Kickboxing |
|||||||||
|
Both these fighters were only nine years old and for their first fights seemed to handle the pressure well. Over the three, one-minute rounds Dorik Hussain looked the sharper fighter with the better combinations working good kicks off both legs, but at the end the referee decided to call it a draw. |

Grace Jenkinson, recent semi contact golden belt winner and w.u.m.a world champion, took on full contact trained Lavinia grant from the warriors club. This was both girls first real full contact fight with Grace being only 13 years of age with Lavinia at 26. Both girls looked up for the fight but as soon as the bell went Grace went straight into her opponent with some powerful kick/punch combinations that knocked down Lavinia within the first 25 seconds. Lavinia then showed great courage to restart the fight but Grace showing a maturity above her age proceeded to knockdown Lavinia again to end the contest in a win for Grace in little under a minute of the first round. Definatly someone to watch for the future. |

Fight 3
- Kickboxing |

A good match up between these two that worked into a great fight. Both fighting for the first time with Erion being the local boy from the warriors club. Jason showed sharper skills and tidier combination work through all three rounds but was matched by the forwardness and heart of Erion taking this fight all the way to the end. At the end international referee Mick Fouls couldn’t separate them ending in a crowd-pleased draw. |

Fight 4
- Kickboxing |

This fight saw the first competitor from the French savate club that travelled over from Paris for this competition. Both fighters were bang on their weights and looked in good shape. This would be a contrast in styles with Tim’s traditional karate background and Yann a more Thai/Savate style. Straight from the bell both fighters were at it with powerful strikes and Yann throwing a round house that hit Tim clean on the head but didn’t seemed to phase Tim. Both worked hard for the first round very evenly matched trading blow for blow. The second round followed the same but Tim seemed to tire near the end and was caught with a roundhouse to the top of the head that sent him to the canvas enough for the fight to be stopped. A good debut for the French Savate fighter and for Tim barker. |

Both fighters looked in good shape for this contest and were evenly weighted. Not much was known about the French fighter Bertrand but his technical ability started to show from the start. Both fighters showed their experience with a much more timed and precise start to the fight trying to land more effective shots but still trading toe to toe when needed. Round 2 saw Bertrand benefiting from slightly sharper timing in his attacks and 1 minute into the round hit Moreno with a cross that put him down on the canvas. No sooner had Moreno recovered from the knockdown he was caught again with the same punch 10 seconds later to receive another 8 count. The third round saw Moreno come back with some good shots and still prepared to come forward and trade shots, but near the end of the round Moreno received another 8 count after Bertrand released a precise roundhouse kick off the back leg. The fight went the distance but the knockdowns swayed it in favour of the French fighter Bertrand Renaud, a good first kickboxing fight for him. |

Fight 7
- Kickboxing |

A great first fight for both these lads and arguably the best fight of the night. Embra had a major height advantage over Ratibb but both weighed in on the mark. Straight from the start both fighters showed some maturity staying at distance and trading shots rather than trying to knock each other out from the bell. Embra’s long range kicking was matched by the good boxing skills from Ratibb and the first round finished as even as it started. Round 2 again saw this fight swing from one fighter to the other both totally focused and excellent for the crowd to watch. Both fighters fighting well at range and willing to get in close and work when needed. This fight was going to go all the way and round 3 would see both lads trying to secure victory. All through the fight both looked like they had more ring experience than they have and it took the referee to settle the decision with a win in favour of Jamie Ratibb. An excellent debut for both fighters. |

Fight 8
- Kickboxing/low kicks |
|||||||||
|
With a handful of fights under his belt Steve Thomas is getting no stranger to the full contact scene and was up for the challenge from the French Savate fighter. The only fight to incorporate low kicks on the night and this would suit both lads. Both previous French fighters had won their fights with both knocking down their opponents more than once. Straight from the start Thomas shot inside the low kicking range of keck and unleashed a series of close range punches that keck couldn’t deal with, knocking him down to floor within 18 seconds. Taking the count and seeming to recover Thomas shot straight in again hitting keck with a roundhouse to the head and another barrage of punches to send keck to the canvas again within 10 seconds of the restart. With Keck in no real state to carry on the fight was stopped with Steve Thomas the winner. |

Fight 9
- Kickboxing |

Due to two fighters pulling out at the last minute this particular fight was put together with the agreement of both fighters and trainers. Steve Bowler in a lighter weight category gave away a weight advantage to Tulloch. From the start of the round Tulloch seemed to get the measure of his opponent using his strength to his advantage. Bowler’s technical ability is always clear to see and in his own class is a fantastic fighter, but the extra bit of weight and strength from Tulloch was obvious when he caught Bowler with a solid jab just 1 minute into the round, that gave him an 8 count and the decision. A win for Tony Tulloch a great show of guts from Steve Bowler. |

First fight for both these local lads and one that didn’t last very long. A typical frenzied mad start from both fighters that the crowds seem to love. Straight away Webster looked the more imposing figure, both moving round well not able to land any decent shots to cause any damage. Then 1 minute into the fight Bisswell seemed to go down and received an 8 count that he didn’t want to carry on from. On his debut fight Graham Webster took the win. |
