The prestigious event played host to no less than four different fighting arts including k1, Muay Thai and MMA, with some of the best fighters from around the world taking part. John said “ It was great to be asked to take part in such an event I really enjoyed it. John Shiels v Maksym Velychko |
||
|
June 20th 2004 saw Banbury’s British kickboxing champion & Fighting Fit Martial Arts club owner John Shiels take on the Ukrainian super light heavyweight boxing champion Maksym Velychko at the Hammersmith Palladium in London. The six round fight was action packed from start to finish and was by far the best match of the eight fights on the bill. Johns ability to adapt to boxing stems back from his days when he won the Irish schoolboys boxing title and the time he spent studying under four times British empire champion the great Percy Lewis. From the start of the first round John took control of the fight and clearly out boxed the Ukrainian putting on an exciting display for the VIP audience. After six hard fought rounds John was awarded the decision to keep his undefeated boxing record intact. John said ‘I am enjoying competing more than ever, it is hard to fit training time in with running the club but like I tell all the members it is a case of making time. I believe a true Martial Artist should compete in all styles of combat and the ability to adapt is of the up-most importance. I am looking forward to this Karate tournament as I will be competing against some of the best fighters in the world again.’ |
